Health Insurance

Utah Tech University requires all new, transfer or readmitted international students and scholars, in an F or J visa category, to purchase medical health insurance (dental and vision insurance are not required).  Due to the high cost of healthcare in the U.S. all students must purchase a plan that meets the minimum requirements, listed below.  You may use an existing insurance plan as long as it meets the below minimum coverage requirements.

UT MINIMUM HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Medical Benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness
• Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000
• Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000
• A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness

UT does not require health insurance from any specific provider, however, we do require our students to have the minimum coverage listed above.  The below providers have often been used by UT’s international students and all meet the minimum required coverage.  You are welcome to use medical insurance from your home country or any company of your choice as long as it meets the minimum required coverage outlined above.

COVID-19 Testing/Vaccinations

Soft Cell Labs also does COVID-19 testing however, their hours are limited and they require proof of insurance to receive free testing.  They will test students without insurance for $100 with a Student ID. As of July 1, 2021, vaccinations are available at any pharmacy without appointment.  Proof of insurance may be required to receive a free vaccine, please call ahead to any pharmacy if you have questions concerning cost.

Tuberculosis (TB) Testing

Each International student is required to provide proof of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) Test at Immigration Check-in (during 1st week of school) with the International Student & Scholars Office (ISSO) at UT.  If not completed a hold will be put on your account preventing registration for future semesters.  Once proof of negative test results are provided the hold will be removed.

The cost for a TB test at UT’s Booth Wellness Center is $205.

The UT Health & Counseling Center offers mental health services for students, staff, and faculty to help deal with mental health, emotional, or behavioral issues and various medical health services, including sick visits, minor wound care, medical testing, lab work, and exams. They also offer Wellness Workshops and QPR-Suicide Awareness & Prevention certification.

Medical and mental health appointments are free for students, unless otherwise indicated.  Services performed at medical appointments are charged per service (labs, assessments, testing, etc.).
